The power of the dog treat!

Dog treats can be the best leverage you have against your dog. Dog treats can help you train your dog by providing a reward for good behavior. They can also help create a bond between you and your dog. Dog treats come in a variety of sizes, shapes and prices.  Because of this abundant variety it can be a little tricky finding the right dog treats for your dog, but finding the right dog treat is an essential part of being a great dog owner.  If you haven’t already found a dog treat that your dog loves its time to get over to your local pet store and find something new!

Training your dog can be tricky, anyone who has ever owned a dog can attest to this.  When all you want to do is love your dog it can be difficult to discipline or ignore your dog when they are not being obedient. That’s something you will just have to get over.  Dog training is one of the most important aspects of forming the relationship between the dog and parent/owner. A great way to create a strong relationship during the training process is to reward positive behavior, and doing so with a delicious and healthy dog treat is quick and easy.

When you are training your dog, do not scold bad behavior, simply ignore disobedience and reward achievement. When you are training your dog to sit, give them a treat when they sit on command.  When they do not sit on command do not show them any attention. Your dog is looking for affection and attention; a dog treat can be a symbol of both.

Training your dog with a dog treat that they don’t really enjoy is like training your dog to sit by asking them to rollover – it just doesn’t make any sense. There is a plethora of dog treats currently on the market, and as a result it can be tricky to find a dog treat that your dog will really love. We suggest a dog treat that is all natural, high in protein, and low in fat and carbohydrates. Dog sreats that fit these criteria are usually dried meats like fish or chicken. Dogs love treats that are real meat.  Chicken is a particular favorite, but fish is also very healthy and tasty as well. The most important part of finding a dog treat is whether or not your dog enjoys the taste. You will know this right away. If they eat it quickly and look to you as if they want more, you’ve got yourself a winner. If they kind of nibble at it and don’t finish it continue looking.

If you’ve got a dog treat that is not going over so well with your dog it’s time for you to go out and find one that they will really enjoy. Try some of our suggestions; we think you’ll see a big difference right away. So get out there and find the right dog treat, your dog deserves it.
